The Partitions are "oldhat" now, but, my five high quality .30-06 rifles ALL shoot them into sub M.O.A. groups consistently and I have NEVER seen one fail to perform in 40 yrs. One of the three smallest sporting rifle groups I ever fired was with a Pre-64, 1948 vintage, and it was with the 180 PT. I never use anything else for hunting, anymore, 'cause I like boring constant performance. The last Grizzly I saw shot took a 180 gr. N.P. through the lungs from a .300 Win. and died in about two minutes, so, I am just a bit biased!

All, Thanks for your time and the thoughtful replies. I'm not considering any boattails, just a boring, ordinary 180 gr flatbase at about 2,700 fps from the muzzle. I'm surprised that a few more folks didn't mention by name the Speer "Hot-Cor", though I have given the Mag-Tip some consideration. I don't think (and also don't know why) Speer rifle bullets get a lot of positive press, but then I don't see a lot of negative either...I guess that says something. Maybe its the lack of a gimmick that's partially responsible. And from what I've seen, Speer doesn't aggressively market their rife bullets as much as other brands. I'll get a box of each and give 'em a try. I don't see a problem with any of the three provided I can get a neck or lung shot. But on the otherhand a 180 Partition would take care of any bad angles or shoulder shots...hmmm.
