What is the best place to hunt an axis deer - free range if possible.

The best places for " free range" axis deer ( as well as other free range exotics) appear to be on larger ranches in Texas( all private, of course). These animals have either "escaped" from fenced ranches or are offspring thereof. I expect other AR members may weigh in on some of these ranches and what it may cost to hunt on them.

For non-free range axis deer, many opportunities exist, mostly in TX & FL. I'd suggested searching on AR and other sites ( eg: The Hunt Report, which one joins for a fee) to get firsthand information from actual hunters. I have hunted Axis deer on several fenced ranches, but these were " meat hunts" for female deer -many feel that Axis is the tastiest of venison. Generally, the larger the property, the more " sporting" and challenging the hunt. Do your homework to minimize a disappointing hunt experience. Good Luck!

The island of Lanai in Hawaii has fee range axis as well as mouflon sheep and was a surprisingly great place to hunt. Maui has axis as well both free range and fenced.

Texas probably has the most, Florida as well as New Mexico have some.
