If ya wanna go at it, try a 300 win mag, most everyone here will probably do the 338 win mag spiel, whatever tickles yer fancy, both have plenty of knockdown for any elk situation.....

I don't know if I would be so quick to pass judgment there JR. We all if we hunt long enough have a shot go bad for what ever reason. ie, twig, unseen fence wire, poor bullet performance, or gust of wind. Stuff happens out there. The fact remains we weren't there, and we was. Why not take him at his word. Lest you be treated the same way. There are a lot of very good shooters here, and even more quick wits! It won't be long before someone takes you to task if you make a name for your self as a smart ass. Just a word to the wise
