Doesn't have to be backpack weight but want it to be able to be set up by 1 person. What's your favorite?

What I have learned on AR, since 2001:
1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken.
2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps.
3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges.
4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down.
5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine.
6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle.
7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions.
8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA.
9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not.
10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact.
11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores.
12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence.
13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

I have a Marmot Tungsten 2p. It is easy to set up and has served me well.

To be honest, I believe that most of the modern dome tents are easy for one person to set up.

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

Buy at least a 4 person tent if weight isn't a problem.

You well enjoy the extra room.

I have been using a Marmot Tungsten 3person for last 4 years just for me and it works well.
It's rated as 3 person but I can't imagine 3 people using it.

I have the same one, it's great for one person, two is tight but your gear can be in the vestibule.

IMHO, A 3 or 4 person tent is way better for two people, especially if weight isn't much of a consideration.

All - I know a two person tent equals 1 person and gear and that a 4 person tent is really two people and gear.

I asked about a two person tent easy to set up as it will be just me.

Mike, I don't know if you can wait until November, but if you can, consider the 9x8 Kodiak Canvas Flex Bow tent.
https://www.competitiveedgepro...t-Flex-bow_p_17.html

I have one of these and it's perfect for one guy on a hunting trip. I easily fit my big Cabela's cot with fat boy pad, a small folding table for the coffee pot, and a folding chair for relaxing and eating when the weather is too sucky to eat outside.

The absolute best thing? You can stand up in this tent. I hate getting dressed laying down or bent over, and I don't have to in this tent. Love it.

We have a Marmot 2 man and it is a solid tent if you are set on a 2 man. Just read the reviews for the style/season you want as Marmot produces a decent product.

If it isn't for back packing then I'd look into the Peregrine Gannet 6 Tent or a similar style tent. You can find them for $250 or so.

I like to stand up in a tent, so I look for a peak height of around 6'. I dislike being stuck in a tent and not being able to stand up. It is nice to stand up and get dressed. I use a 6 man tent alone and the right style are not hard to set up alone- just get something similar to the one posted above. Of course, that is just my opinion.

I have a Sierra Designs Convert 3 I like a lot, they also make a Convert 2. Built to stand up to high winds, keeps you warm and isn't too heavy. Setup isn't hard but isn't super easy either. Practice inside or in your yard a few times before going out.

Chuck

How & when is the tent going to be used? 3 season, 3+ or 4 season? Wind & rain or snow? Open country or in some cover? Do you want a traditional tent or does a "hot tent" interest you?

Those questions aside I've had good use with Marmot Tents, Black Diamond, and Big Agnes and been comfortable in a hunting partners Seek outside teepee.

But I have really come to appreciate my Hilleberg Nallo GT the most and that is usually what gets put in my pack.

I/we have used the Eureka tents. All has been well, and would recommend them. Four person and less, I know nothing about the larger versions.

I had a 4 man Eureka Timberline I used and lived out of for a bit for over 20 years. Poles bent in a blizzard, so my uncle made me some titanium ones on some left over metal from the Space Shuttle lol

I bought a two person tent at Walmart. They have a tent that is the same tent as the REI Half Dome tent. The Walmart tent has fiberglass poles, aluminum for REI. I replaced the stakes that came with the Walmart tent also. I think the Walmart tent was $50 the REI Half Dome $150.

Very happy with my purchase.
