Importing rifles into the USA?

I don't know where to post this question. perhaps the moderators can help. In any case does anyone have experience buying a rifle overseas and then bringing it into the USA? Some questions:
1. If you are accompanying the rifle (bringing it in), what paperwork is required? Pay taxes?
2. Suppose you are not accompanying the rifle? Same question.
3. Do you need a "broker" or FFL hlder?
Et. etc.
I believe that this may have been asked before but I can't seem to find the threads.
Thanks, Peter.

Gunbroker has an FAQ on importing rifles into the US. You have to scroll down a bit on this page:
