Just found one of these. New to the cartridge (.375 Win.)
I like the rifle alot and will use it for whitetails and black bear.
If anyone has experience with this round and or rifle sing out.
I haven't shot the rifle yet, in fact it is unfired. Not for long though!
I have a box of the original 200 grain Winchester loading, says "Big Bore 94" on the box.
So any .375 Win. fans help me out please.

Had 1 for a while ( 10 years ) great gun & caliber. 4198 & Rl-22 are supposed to be powder of choise but I never could get enough 22 in the case to get 2000fps with 220 Horns. I did manage a good load with 4198 that shot an 1" consistant @ 2000fps, I'll go look it up if you would like?

I'd really appreciate that load info. I understand there are only a couple of jacketed bullets made for this round. What about a hard cast slug? I believe this round will do just about all I need. I've only shot one deer over 200 yards, a couple around 165 or so. Most are within shotgun range. Any blackie will be under 100 yards most likely. Thanks in advance for your time.

303HUNTER. I LOADED SOME 220GR. HORNADYS IN MY 375 H&H DOWN TO 375 WINCHESTER VELOCITIES FOR HUNTING DEER HERE IN TEXAS. I SHOT A DOE DEER AT 175 YARDS, SHE WAS FACING ME. THE BULLET HIT IN THE CHEST AND WAS FOUND IN THE LEFT HAM OF THE DEER WHILE PREPARING THE MEET FOR THE FREEZER. THE BULLET LOOKS LIKE IT SHOULD BE IN A HORNADY ADVERTISEMENT, PERFECT MUSHROOM, GOOD RETAINED WEIGHT. SHOT ANOTHER DOE A COUPLE OF HOURS LATER AT 150 YARDS RIGHT BEHIND THE SHOULDER, DEER WENT RIGHT DOWN. COMPLETE PENETRATION. SHOULD BE A GOOD BULLET FOR YOUR LEVER. THE HORNADY LOAD MANUAL SHOWS RELOADER 7 AS GIVING THE HIGHEST VELOCITY, WITH THEIR 220GR FLAT POINT. STARTING LOAD 31.1GR. FOR 1800FPS. 34.5 GR. FOR 2000FPS. AND A MAX LOAD OF 38GR. FOR 2200FPS....THE BARNES MANUAL NUMBER 3 SHOWS THE FOLLOWING: 220 BARNES ORIGINAL, RELOADER 7, 31GR. 1809FPS, MAX LOAD,35GR. 2042FPS.... WITH IMR 3031, 34 GR. 1862FPS, MAX LOAD,38GR. 2081FPS..... WITH THE 255GR. BARNES ORIGINAL, RELOADER 7, 29GR. 1652FPS. MAX LOAD 33GR. 1880FPS... IMR3031, 32GR. 1692FPS. MAX LOAD IMR3031, 36GR. 1903FPS. THESE ARE THE TWO POWDERS BARNES RECOMENDS. HOPE THIS IS OF SOME HELP. HORNADY SHOT THEIR LOADS IN A "BIG BORE 94" AND STATED THAT 2.5 INCH GROUPS WERE THE BEST OBTAINABLE AT 100 YARDS. GOOD LUCK...

I don't think you'll have good luck with cast bullets as the gun has Micro-groove barrel which tends to strip very easy. Here's some spec I've come up with using that same gun & 220 Horns; H-335 39gn, 3"gp @ 1825fps. RL7 36gn, 4"gp @ 1875fps. 3031 36gn, 3" @ 1800fps Best load was 32gn 0f IMR 4198 gave some 1" gps @ 1800fps. You can push speeds to 2000 but I was never able to get aceptable accuracy doing so. Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone, very helpful. Check these loads out from Richard Lee's "Modern Reloading".

375 Winchester
200 grain jacketed: Accurate 1680 40.0 grains (max) 2512 fps @41500 CUP

220 grain jacketed: Accurate 1680 38.0 grains (max)2372 fps @44800 CUP

220 grain jacketed: Reloder 7 36.0 grains (max) 2260 fps @ 45500 CUP (higher pressure than any listed load for .303 British!)

A 220 grain .375 cal flatnose at 2372 fps in a 6 3/4 lb levergun! Better keep a sharp knife and some aspirin handy.

thanks for the info.

I kinda think his chrono is on steroids or his barrel is a LOT longer than mine was !!!

Certainly does get one wondering doesn't it? The barrel length is not listed with this info. Hard to believe they had a barrel in .375 Win. which wasn't 20" but anything's possible I guess.

2372 fps with a 220 is really steaming.
Also, the pressure figures are up there for a levergun. The 336 in .35 Remington is held to 35,000 CUP. What gives? (the action?)!!

I just worked up a load in my Marlin with AA-1680 and the 220 Hornady. The Hornady manual lists a max load of 1680 at 41.2 gr for a velocity of over 2300 fps. I worked up to 40.5 without any pressure problems but accuracy was starting to slide. I worked my way back down to 39.5 gr and shot consistent 1.2" groups with the smallest being 1.03" (at 75 yds, 3 shots) I will now tinker with OAL to try to tighten up the groups. A poster from another board reported 2240 fps with the same rifle with a 38.0 gr charge of 1680, so I'm confident that I'm over 2200 fps with my load. Should be good medicine!
