Went down to my small property near the River this afternoon. Have been seen quite a few axis deer there this season. Today, had two stags (with 4" bases and antlers all of about 1" long - won't see hard antlers on these guys until June) and 4 does. Decided to go ahead and take one for the table with my 9,3x74R. Punched her through the shoulders (its only 8 acres, didn't want her running off the property). First animal I've taken with this barrel.

Will tan the hide for the couch.

She should make some good eating!

Troy,
We use to hunt the Circle E ranch that was about 15miles or so due east of Rocksprings. It was on the old winding road by the Nueces River. Lot of Axis deer there. Sure hated it when the Eubanks sold it.

Troy,

Great! It appears that is an Encore, if so where did you get the 9.3X74R barrel? I would like to have that cartridge on an Encore also.

Thanks.

Try these folks for a 9.3X74 barrel for an Encore.

I bought a shilen blank and a manson reamer and sent it off to Bullberry. Its a 26" barrel with a Heavy Sporter Taper. It has Bullberry's 6 screw weaver base, XS Ghost Ring front sight with low rear back up sights for the weaver base, and a Leupold 1.5x5 VXIII in Leupold QD Rings.

MGM may now offer 9,3x74R barrels, but I don't think that they offered one on their website when I had mine made.

Nice going! Axis is, in my opinion, the very best of all the venison I have tried.

That tanned hide should look good in your living room, too. thumb
