Socrates- Nope, still not flat enough to be compared to a good 300. Plus, can you tolerate that much recoil to make 400yds shots 100% of the time? I can't so even if the rifle is capable it does me no good. Those figures quoted are likely optimistic in most factory produced rifles or even many custom made ones. Possible- sure, but I wouldn't bet the farm on 2700fps.

Socrates - it's a 24" - I'm looking at the Federal site (http://www.federalcartridge.com/andex2.html) and I'm seeing 2530 fps in 24" barrels...

I read 2530 fps from that website, also. [This message has been edited by Longbob (edited 03-03-2002).]

You are correct. I looked only in the Safari section. You may find this of interest. They list the 300 grain Nosler Partitions at an 2530 fps. These are the results out of my M70 SS. 375 H&H Winchester M70 Stainless and 24" barrel. Federal Premium 300 gr. Nosler Partitions. 2481 fps

That's why I have a 25 inch barrel:-) Anyway, anything I would hit with that load wouldn't know the difference anyway, between 2700-2500. I just thought it made the idea of improving, or adding capacity to the case, a moot point, since you can get the extra couple hundred feet per second with barrel length, and factory loads. Saeed has his 404/375, the RUM, and the WBY, all are considerations for my CZ 550. However, if factory loads are close to those specs, why bother? I figure if you go much higher, for DGR, the bullet may blow up. Also Gerard has some very fast, high BC 375 240-265 grain bullets, for ultra high velocities, out of a 375 H&H. All of this sort of put to rest my idea of rechambering for a 375 WBY, etc. gs ------------------

I've used a couple. The bullets performed great. One was a poor shot on a Buffalo that had to be followed up, my rifle but I wasn't the shooter. The other was a Black Wildebeest, went down instantly from a frontal shot at 250 yds. ------------------
