The Kentuckiana Chapter of Safari Club International will be conducting a youth / Beginner hunter training camp July 30 - 31, 2005. We will host about 40 youth hunters, and a suprising number of adult-beginner parents, single mothers, etc. This is not the State Hunter Saftey course, some of the participants have been to it, we will get some new ones signed up at this event. Some of these kids would otherwise have minimal opportunities to begin hunting. We will shoot rimfire, down loaded high power, clays, turkey pattern, use binocs, spotting scope, stalk and (hopefully!)photograph Deer, Elk etc. at a game perserve, tracks, blood trailing, fishing, saftey, touch on reloading, anatomy, field dressing, projectile performance, cooking, conservation, etc. Q1. Blood trailing. Real blood is not likely to be readily available in enough quantity to put trails out hourly for two days. I have belly hair, shoulder hair, clipped hair from underside miss, need blood substitute that will not be a problem to deal with in hot weather. Veg. oil and food coloring is my best idea so far. Q2. A couple of years ago, a product came out one sprays on blood trail to make it stand out in dark. Would anyone know what this is, and if it worked well enough that we should mention it? Also, I thought it could be duplicated with common chemicals? Q3. What am I overlooking? We will have about 1 1/2 hours per activity, groups of 4-5, very different ages and knowledge levels, so no one topic can get very involved, but I don't want to overlook anything important. Thank you for any input and suggestions. Bob Edwards | ||

Have never tried it but have heard that hydrogen peroxide works, too, and it is relatively inexpensive. This is a great project! Your group is to be commended. Getting youngsters involved and teaching them ethics, safety, etc. is very important.
