I'm planning on getting out real soon. Most of the snow is gone out in the open but there is still a foot in the woods.
I have a spot that I wan't to look for mulie sheds but am unsure of the concentration of deer in feb. During the rut there was tons of deer there that had migrated from high ground. I think it's a good place to start I figure.
I have a couple of spots that I know are going to produce for moose sheds. I've seen countless moose in these same locations winter after winter. The moose here don't carry huge racks with a 45" being big and a 50" being huge but it sounds like something to help me ware off the beer belly I've been building all winter.
I've never actually shed hunted deliberatly but stumble across sheds and skulls often. It's sounds like a good idea to get out before the rodents and sun get to them.

I found a fair amount of mulie sheds at work last spring. Even found one skull with both sides attached still.
A few years before that I found 2 small moose antlers busted off on the main beams locked together on the ground. Must have been a decent fight. But I don't know how both moose could have broken their main beams off.

Here in eastern Washington you had better find them by now because mice and other rodents like to chew on them. Have found some dandies but seldom a matching pair. Saw a real nice buck one time eating some buck brush... two horns going in , only one coming out.
I went several times in feb before the last snowfall. I found about 25+ the biggest only being about a 50 point 5 pointer...but lots of fork horns and even a few spikes...I tell my buddy that spikes are a bigger find sine they are harder to see.... we got back out this past sat and went to a big corporation that is fenced in and we found about 12...the place is about 800 acres in CT and has been fenced for at least 20 years, but there are a few holes in it....anyway the biggest find was a wallet!!!!! the only thing left were the credit cards...8 of them! the experation dates on the ran from 8-66 to 6-67!!!!!!!!!!!they have been in the woods a long time! huh american express, diners club, sinclair gas, ripley(?) citgo, shell, texaco and a NY boat registration card....for a 25 foot wooden inboard pacemaker built in 1965!...at least I think it was neat!.........bob....ps did find about 20 ticks too!!!
