on April 23rd-30th.

Hunt the Monster Bears of Prince of Wales Island at a bargin rate (e.g. less than half price)

100' Mothership makes for a remote and mobile base camp.

Hunt is conducted from 26' fishing boats. Glassing the beaches, flats and medows.

Stalks start by launching a raft and rowing ashore... then closing the distance, by foot, on these monster bears.

Last season 32 hunter killed 31 bears. The lone unsuccesful hunter was bowhunting.

Of the 31 bears killed, 16 made the 20" Boone and Crockett minimum. The weight of the bears taken will vary from 500lbs to 800lbs.

Again...

Our week is April 23-30... use the 23rd or 24th(arrival before 4pm) as a fly-in date to Ketchikan... 30th as a fly out date... Hunt is Monday thru Friday...

It is one of the earlier weeks BUT all of the island hunts kick off earlier because they are a more temperate climate.

While you don't see the 10-20 bears per day that you might on later weeks, more like 5-8 bruiser boars during this week, this is the week that they shoot big bears. The larger boars tend to come out of hibernation the earliest and they claim their beach territory.

Again, by large bear, remember that the AVERAGE BEAR on this hunt makes the Boone & Crockett book!

I booked the entire week, 6 hunters, and we were going to be 5 hunters total. Four people cancelled, 2 brothers and their boys, because of a family emergency.

Normally these are his prices...

1x1 -- $4300
2X1 -- $3900

We are booked 2 hunters per 26' hunting boat (all of the hunters, max of 6, stay on the 100' mothership).

The cancelling hunters have already paid the deposit so the balance, the price that you would be paying for this hunt, is only $1900

This DOES NOT include your airfare from your house to Ketchikan, Alaska. I got mine, from Los Angeles, on Priceline, for $350.

It DOES NOT include your hunting license/bear tag which is like $300.

It DOES inlcude your airfare from Ketchikan to Prince of Wales.

It DOES inlcude all food and lodging.

It DOES include all post bear hunt fun... like world class Steelhead fishing, salmon, halibut and etc.
They have all equipment, fly or conventional, at no additional cost.

Come on guys, this is a big $ hunt for a fraction of the normal price, this one is a no brainer...

SA

PS. Contact me for their website and my phone number.

PPS. Prince of Wales is a one bear limit island.

_______________-

You're right Kudu and you can do it that way and on your own but if that offer is all legit, on the up and up and the references check out, it's one hell of a deal. Camping and doing it on your own is one thing. Staying on a Mothership, ferrying back and forth on a 26'er, eating good and sleeping dry is another.

At today's gas/diesel cost to drive up + hotels/campgrounds/food, etc. along the way and the cost of the Marine hwy to and from Bellingham (e.g.)- it is a helllll of a deal. Run the #'s.

JMO on it and wished I could break loose and go for it.

I have done it three times, I never spent more than $1000. Driving from Wyoming. I never said it wasn't a hell of a deal.

Spyro why aren't you spewing your retoric on the nonresident issue?

I think it is a great deal. Promised my wife a trip that week or I would take it in a heartbeat. I gotta pay those dues to get to hunt Africa in the summer.

Although cartridge selection is important there is nothing that will substitute for proper first shot placement. Good hunting, "D"

This deal is legit... more than enough people on this forum and others know me...

Yall want to talk about it... just drop me an e-mail and I'll reply with the outifitter's website and my phone number...

Check would be payable to the outfitter, not me...

This will be my 20th year hunting Prince of Wales.

I have hunted Prince of Wales every which way...

Glassing cuts...

Setting baits...

From skiffs...

From motherships...

If you aren't hunting the beaches, you aren't shooting the really big dominant boars.

The only problem is that if you are based out of any of the landings, you'll be knee deep in hunters.

With a mothership, you won't see other hunters and you'll spend more time on the productive hunting grounds because you don't have 3 hours of boat rides every day.

From a mothership, you'll realistically be seeing 5 big boars every day... in stalkable locations... Booner bears are the norm on these beaches...

Not to mention, all post bear kill activities are included, with all equipment, like guided halibut fishing, guided salmon fishing and guided steelhead fishing.

Let me put it this way...

I can go hunt Wyoming on my own as well.

Heck, I can backpack into the wilderness area even.

But it doesn't beat, being packed in... having a nice camp... then hunting from horses.

SA

PS. Even if you want a DIY Hunt... Rather than drive all the way up here and camping and being limited to hunting only areas where you can drive, with a little research, you can rent a home for the week... most will also come with a couple of boats and even a truck. 6 guys could do it, with airfare and tag, for $1300 a piece per week.

Just a point. You, as an out-of-stater? If so, you surely can backpack but if hunting you'll need a guide. You live in Wy, it sounds like?

Comparing a guided/outfitted/DIY is comparing
apples/pears/oranges.

If legit, this is a deal. And if I was a bear hunter I would be interested.

Hunt as long as you can
As hard as you can.
You may not get tommorrow.

It's a very good deal indeed!

I live here, and hunt down there, and it would probably save me money to go on that trip. Unfortunately I have other hunting plans that week.

Spyro, incoming e-mail...

Yes it is a good deal. And would be very relaxing and enjoyable, the mother ship and all!

But I would bet a limited quota buck tag, that if Spyro fills the hunt he gets a discount!

$1900.00 is heck of a lot of bang for your buck (bear) up there in S.E. Alaska. I have hunted a lot of places and where this hunt is located is one of my all time favorite places on the planet. If I had to go guided I'd jump at this offer. You won't find a bear hunt in Canada or the lower 48 with the quality this area can offer for the money.

Rather than listening to me babble on, I figure that hearing about the trip from one of the guys that grab one of the cancellation spots would be more interesting...

I went with Spyro on the trip, it was a first class trip. Spyro and his gang are all stand up guys. I had the time of my life. Go to my site http://groups.msn.com/skunkaroo1 to see some pictures. I should have some more pics in a few days.

Just back from Prince of Wales Island Alaska and was lucky enough to harvest this awesome black bear. It was the hunt of a lifetime, and I'm already rebooked for next year. Spot and stalk method on feeding Black Bears is as good as it gets!

Here's another pic of the bear. My first trip to Alaska and I don't care if I have to refinance the house, I'm going back as often as I can!! Not only was the bear hunting world class, but the fishing was awesome too!

Here are a couple of his pictures...

Trip Pics

I think that it went rather well...
