I had two different incidents yesterday. One trying to steal and the other poaching turkeys. I had a field with three gobblers in it and I saw a truck on side of field. Glassed the field and saw a guy set up. I ran the turkeys out of the field and yelled at the guy. He was about 175 yards away. He started running at me with his gun. I had my son with me so decided to drive away. I do not want to have go to the ER or court house over a turkey.

Other guy I caught inside our farm shop. I have never seen this guy before. This shop is miles down a dirt road that does not get much traffic. I left the door open while my son and I went fishing at our pond close by. When we returned to the shop, he ran out and took off in his truck. He must of just gone in because nothing was missing. I have him on security camera. I called one of my guides who is a Deputy Sheriff. He told me that with the current situation they are not proactively arresting drug dealers or responding to theft. It has to be an act of violence for them to respond to a call.

My cousin is a Judge and he told me that domestic/child abuse, theft and drugs have all increased. My neighbor had someone break in to his shop behind his house Saturday night. He fired shots over their car to scare them off. Couple other incidents of door to door theft. On Saturday a woman knocked on a door at a remote farm house and claimed she was in danger. While doing this two others broke through back window and robbed the farmer.

Over 1000 policemen are out sick with the virus in NY. We are releasing prisoners all over the country. These people were not locked up for misdemeanors! I hope that law enforcement is monitoring gang activity. I could probably handle two or three but any more would get dangerous. I am currently wearing a pistol whenever I am out working on the farm. I am not that guy that feels like he has to be carrying all the time.
Remember my Grandfather telling me that during the Depression was when he saw the most theft in all his years of living on our farm.

Government needs to make a law that any criminal activity should have stronger sentencing during this pandemic. Be safe and keep eye out.

Sadly, Yes. We will see more of this. Not only will the best and Worst of people be seen in a Crisis but there is a cash shortage in the drug user community too and their normal lines of "commerce" are restricted too.
Law enforcement is under strain as well. The Shortage of Personal Protection equipment, Gloves and Masks, is real for them too. Some good may come of this as we come to realize our protection is always and has always been a Personal Matter.

I think they should lock all the violent prisoners in general population and leave them with four month supply of bread, canned goods and water. Take the guards out of risk.

Yeah, there are turkey poachers all over the country who've just been waiting for a pandemic to hit so they could bag a spring gobbler.

Contrary to the tilt of this thread, law enforcement agencies across the country cite a marked decline in crime. I guess they're a part of the conspiracy to make us think the coronavirus is real and can make you sick or even kill you. What bullshit! We all know they're just making this thing up.

Give the cops, border patrol and sheriffs deputies a break.

If you have dealings with them give them room, respect, thank them and give them a smile.

I have to go to through a border patrol checkpoint to visit the other side of the facility I work on. I used to joke with them and was friendly, now I am just friendly. Roll down all my windows, and don't give them anything to worry about.

Their jobs are really shitty now, try and be mindful of that.

Our city police are on extra alert, I know most of them that work on the day shift, and they are having a hell of a hard time.

Imagine being on alert everyday because your life depends on it. Then imagine that same scenario with a 20-30% uptick in criminials, and a 200-300% uptick in thefts, robberies and everything else (my numbers are just a guess, but based on what the world is seeing I think I am fairly right).

Fellow I used to know many years ago.
Had a big hog farm operation and scrapped
lots of cars for parting out etc.

Had a pile of radiators and other things
stolen he figured had cost him ten grand.

Decided he and two sons would stand guard
with guns. Dennis Pratt is his name if you
want to look the case up.

They saw a p/up enter and went down there.
Caught two and Dennis decided to put the
scares into them and fired a .30/30 into
what should have been a stack of mashed
cars. He had no clue there was a third
kid there and shot him by accident. Kid died. Dennis
got life in the state pen. One kid stayed,
the other got away in the p/up.

Knowing Dennis I personally figured IF the
boys had caught the other kid. They would
have ended up as hog feed and their truck
run thru the shredder.

Capt: cover your ass if you accost those
bastards.

It's no wonder that a man who believes that summarily administering capital punishment is appropriate for the crime of stealing trashed radiators was given a life sentence.

If you regard turkey poaching in the same way then you are likely not to fare well in court.

Just had a couple of Metis shot in northern Alberta, about a week ago. They were supposedly moose hunting this time of year, enough to offend any conservation minded individual. They were 500 miles from their homes. There was apparently an altercation prior to the shooting, this happened well after dark. Somebody came forward and confessed a couple of days later, a lot of rumors that these two were indulging in some after dark shopping and paid the price. We have a severe rural crime problem here and when the cops catch them, the courts just release them pending a court appearance. Guess how many show up for court , some of them charged with gun crimes ?

I am a career prosecutor (27 years and counting) in southern Wisconsin. We've been in a soft lock-down for about three weeks now, so it's a bit early to say how this has affected crime. I will say this, though. Most of my present caseload is domestic violence and crimes against children (neglect, physical abuse, pornography, but mostly sexual assault.) I would bet my next paycheck that, whether it's reported to law enforcement or not, a lot more of the kinds of cases I prosecute is happening now than before. Folks are cooped up with each other under a lot of stress (fear of sickness, job loss)kids are out of school and can't play much with their friends-- and the adults very likely more drinking than usual, even for Wisconsin. Oh, yeah, the perverts who assault kids have even greater access to them now than before.

I am very confidant that once we get the all-clear, I am going to be extremely busy.

Clark forget the propane cannon. Get a dog and an invisible fence. It doesn’t need to put teeth in to someone, just needs to put up a good front.

sdirks,

I wear the black hat as compared to your white hat. There has not been too much of an uptick here. At least my phone isn't ringing too much. However, the county has decided to “cite and release” many misdemeanors. It is a crazy time.

Also, most defendants out on bond have been passed to an indefinite date once things are all clear. Like you, it will be wild for once things get fired back up.

What’s strange is that the local news rarely covers crime anymore, but we know it’s happening. That may be a directive to discourage further crime. However, I do carry when I am out (really just walking the pup).

One thing for sure is things like the situation we are currently in will bring out the worst and the best in people. Be careful out there, wherever you are.

That sounds very similar to what is happening in my county. Don't know if you heard down there, but our state supreme court ordered that all jury trials be rescheduled to sometime after May 22. Because of the Memorial Day holiday, in my county that means none until
at least June. All court appearances of any kind have to be done remotely until the end of April and my office is almost all working from home. We have fifteen attorneys and about 30 support staff, but for the next month only my boss, who is the elected DA, and a couple support staff are actually at the court house. So I am doing what I can to work remotely from my dining room table and my crappy state-issued laptop. Not fun.

I have very little faith in my local sheriff's office... no teeth left.. I had 115 firearms stolen, you'd think they'd be more active in investigations... they won't even issue a warrant for the convicted felon that actually pawned one of them... nope... he was on tape at the pawn shop, they have his name, license number and where he lives..... but let a speeder go by and bam... red lights everywhere....very disappointing...
