Closest was 9 feet. Furthermost was 425 yards. Two other 325, 350. Dozen more in the 100 to 200 range. My first three elk shot were 200, 35, and 100 yards, my last three were 601, 850, and 496. There were three more in the middle that were between 75 and 250. Discounting the long one with an accurate 300 RUM, Average is in the 250's but they seem to be either 200 and under, or 500 and over. The difference in distances is the terrain I hunt between two different areas. All but the 496 yarder were one shot kills, that one stayed standing long enough for a second shot with both in the lungs (7 WSM). Shoot straight, shoot often. Matt | |||

Im not sure there is a true answer, just guess and by gosh even on surveys. Ive seen elk at all ranges, most I would say are killed at 100 yards or less, therefore most that are missed are 101 yards are more!
