Anyone ever get an Elk in PA? I put my name in the hat for the draw. How hard would it be to get one, if I was lucky?

Comet- IF you get a tag, getting the elk will probably not be too hard... I don't want to make it sound like a canned hunt (it's definitely not), but they are in a somewhat limited area, with generally good access, so you have a pretty good shot at tagging one if you make the draw. You might want to check out www.huntingpa.com , as they had a forum dedicated to hunting elk in PA. Good luck in the draw!

A follow-up to my last post... If you check out the HuntingPA website, be prepared for lots of arguing. I quit going there a couple years ago because of it, but you may find exactly the info you're looking for there, if you've got thick enough skin to stick around!

Comet: You probably have a better chance at winning the powerball than getting an elk tag in Pa. The Pa Elk "hunt" is nothing more than a huge cash "elephant" for the state of Pa. I believe they made close to a million bucks on their "NON REFUNDABLE" elk applications. They are a big tourist attraction in Pa and there are some really big ones but I think at last I read they will only be harvesting 36 cows and 5 bulls this year. Also the local landowners are wiseing up to the fact that they can make some money charging access fees and even guiding. As a resident of Pa, knowing the general area, the bullshit rules the state has and the greedyness of the locals, I'll just save my $10 and put it towards a western hunt. I don't care it they (whoever they are) say that the next workd record elk may come out of Pa or not.

I chase these elk out of my flower beds with a slingshot. They are not really wild. Any similarity to a real hunt is purely coincidental! I'm one of those "greedy" locals. I just wish that the elk and the marble eyed tourists would just go away.

Luckiely with USO the locals are pretty much guaranteed to never, ever, draw a tag. But isn't that fair?

The USO decision had nothing to do with the PA not limiting the number of tags to non-residents. Our great Game Commission made this change last year. I would love to see 39 of the 40 tags go to non-residents (the 40th tag to me obviously), so I could watch the backlash the game commission would get. Craig
