Guys,

Have been watching the ELN Elk Country Journal and many of their segments involve the use of elk calls.

Where can I get more information on commercial or hand made calls and the sounds they are supposed to make?

Thanks a bunch!

Any sporting goods store should care elk calls. There are a stagering number of them avalable. Most work reasonabley well. There are several VHS tapes on how to use the calls. If you can not find them at your local store Cabelas cares serveral good calls and vidoes. One word of caution is that alot of public elk have had so many people trying to call them that they are getting pretty call shy. Most of the elk that you see on the shows are on private ground that does not get much pressure. If you hunt on private ground you most likely will be with an outfitter and he will already have the calls and knowledge to use them.

Good luck
Russ

I have found that most bulls will answer a bugle but the educated ones won't come in very often. What I like to do is bugle til I get a response and then use my cow call to lure them in. Any more bugles will push them away most times.
I find the Carlton Fighting cow call works great. The cows will even come in to investigate this call. Some times they bring the bull with them.

I like to use the carlton mouth reeds the one i use is a brown triple reed you can cow call bugle and chuckle with it you have to be carefull not to sound to deep and intimadating and dont call too often in the last 6 years a lot of bulls are getting a lot of pressure and are coming in silent but they are coming in sit tight and dont move but set up is critical on silent bulls.
