Capebuf: In the interest of full disclosure, I'm a partner here: www.bowlincamps.com near Patten Maine. It's run by a good friend of mine & partner, a retired USMC "snake driver". In fact all of us are either active (I'm the last one on AD) or retired USN & USMC officers. Here's a writeup by Dave Campbell formerly of the NRA Magazine:

That bear went a bit over 320 lb and had an 18" noggin. NOT TYPICAL but they are out there. There are many others, we just run our place like we fight! jorge

Hey Rojo,Mac here! Where, and on what airline do you fly into for the bear hunts at your place? Is there a spring Black bear hunt in Maine?

All my black bear hunting has been in Alaska, and Canada, but travel with guns has gotten so bad when crossing international borders, that I'm looking to do a hunt in Main. Do they have airport pick-up, or do I have to rent a car for a week! I need a full lodgeing & board, because I'll be hunting by myself, so don't want to ferry a full camp up there! Confused

If you'd rather do this off forum, my E-mail is DUGABOY1@aol.com

PS: After reading the article you posted, and accessing their web-site, I think I've got all the info, other than "SPRING HUNT", and Airport pick-up, and drop off!

Mac: No Spring Bear Hunt in Maine. You fly into Bangor and it's about a 90 mile car ride up. Lodging and meals are all inclusive. We just spent some big bucks revamping the cabins and Miss Patty cooks some superb meals. As to airport pickup, generally not done as we don't have a huge staff but call them and ask to speak with Ken. Tell him I sent you and hopefully he won't bad mouth me too badly! jorge

Contact Black River Guide Service in Allagash, ME 207-398-4103. They also have a website. The outfit is runned by Jan & Brenda Soucy. I have hunted with them for years and generally get my bear. Cabins are fully equipped and clean. 5 day hunt is $1150. Success is best in the area. Has over 75 baits.

Any questions, write me at rslus@hotmail.com
