I'm looking for a 60-80 yard black bear over bait rifle/scope, CHEAP and I found a .338win with a Leapers 1.5-6x42 scope on it. I've never heard of or seen a Leapers scope. What can you tell me about them. Are they any good? Would I want to replace it, my 6.5x55 wears a Leupold 3.5x10. Would it compair to say a Bushnell Trophy? Heres a link to Leapers web page. http://www.leapers.com/OpticCatalog.htm

Mark, how do I say this....? Bottom of the barrel. For black bear over bait, take a look at the link below. They offer a refurb, 4x Weaver scope for $75. I don't think you can find a better bang for the buck, so to say. Considerably better than a Bushnell Trophy, good warrantee, and plenty clear. Mark - Natchez (www.natchezss.com) offers re-furb'ed Burris Scopes, with full factory warranty, at pretty good prices. I've used a number of them, and, if you don't mind the extra weight of the Burris, they're great. R-WEST

R-WEST Thanks for the info, but the "good" folks at www.natchezss.com want sell to people in AL, GA and TN.

Mark65x55: I found that hard to believe, so I checked and, sure enough, they don't sell to residents of Al, Tn or Ga. But they explain that they support their wholesale dealer purchasers in those states whose business and continued support allowed them to grow and prosper. I and they realize this inconveniences some people but I find it to be an admirable display of loyalty, all too rare in the business world of today, and my hat is off to them. I'll try to do more busines with them.

Gatogordo I don't know which one pisses me off more. The fact that you didn't believe me, the fact that they want take my order, or the fact that you find this admirable. Suppose Cabela's, Basspro Shop or Midway wouldn't sell to you just because you live in Texas? Would you find that "admirable" ? Would you offer your hat off to them? I think you would call this discrimination and I sir do not care for your comments or www.natchezss.com.

mark65x55, I agree with Gatogordo. They are supporting their dealers in their home marketing area. That is just good business and commendable. I don't feel that "Big G" was making any personal swipe at your integrity. Good Luck with your scope. I would still call Bear Basin and visit with them. One ten minute conversation with a true pro would have a very well priced scope on the way to you! Bear Basin Link Bob [ 07-22-2002, 19:02: Message edited by: Bob in TX ]

mark - Amazing. Even more amazing is that there are people here who think it's okay. We're all in this together, and, that means we help each other out, whether saving $$ or with load dope. I have nothing against them protecting their dealers or whatever, as long as their dealers don't charge a bunch more than you'd be able to buy it for on their website, or than I can buy it for by mail-order. But, what if none of their dealers are near you? Try Mid-South Shooters Supply. Occasionally, they have some similar deals. I think I saw something from them on refurbed Leupolds last year. Also, cruise the gun shops. I find a lot of used Leupolds (send it back to the factory and for a minimal amount they'll renew it) and others that have been removed from trade-ins. I got one of the old, American made, Redfield Widefields in 3-9 for $100.00 a few years ago. Redfield wanted $25.00, if memory serves, to re-do it, so, I got a $300 scope for less than half that. Good luck, R-WEST [ 07-22-2002, 20:39: Message edited by: R-WEST ]
