Thinking about using some 150gr Hornady SSTs out of a 300wsm for deer. Has anybody had any experience with these bullets on medium size game? I an opinions or experiences would be helpful. According to Hornady's website, they should do the trick, just worried about them coming apart at close ranges at 300wsm velocities.

How fast are you pushing them? I took a doe year before at less than 40yds with my 7mm08 and 139 SST at just under 2800fps. Nice entrance and exit. YMMV

I've used the 150gr. SST in my .308 Ruger RSI for whitetail, axis and blackbuck. The 165 gr. SST in my 300 WinMag BLR has accounted for axis and whitetail, the 180 gr. SST in my '06 BAR has similarly accounted for axis and whitetail. All were one shot kills with heart/lung shots, except the blackbuck. I spined him by shooting about 2" to high.

I think they are excellent bullets for medium game, they also seem to shoot very accurately in the three rifles I use them in.

Killed a doe Antelope this past Saturday w/my 7mm-08 pushing 139SST's @ 2750fps mv. Was going for the lungs right behind the shoulder but pulled slightly to the left and hit mid-shoulder and exited the neck (don't know if she turned and/or dropped her head at last second, and/or bullet deflected). She was 190yrds away and dropped straight down. I have been happy with the accuracy, was happy with the pass through (broke shoulder, front of bricket, and neck), but would not be happy if the bullet did deflect (only time and more kills will tell).

Deke.

How fast would that be moving out of your short mag? Might want to go with the 165gr. to slow it down a bit.
