CarpetMan asked me to post this picture of a very nice deer his Grandson got recently. This his second of the season, by the way. Thinking maybe I should be asking him how to find deer...

Thanks Scrounger for posting that for me. This was near San Angelo,Tx--deer here in general are small. This was taken with .243. He has gotten atleast one deer per year since he was 9 and since he was 11,all have been with .243.

There's no such thing as a "little" 8 point. It must be eight R Greater.

Actually it's a 10 pointer. He graduated. A few years ago he got an 8 pointer during the special youth season, then on opening day of regular season,he got a second 8 pointer. This year he has also taken a nubb buck. I have a nephew that recently went back to college and is a pharmacist. He was older than most if not all in his class. Anyways he went into the Army as a Capt upon graduation. He has never gotten a deer although he has hunted them some. He said he wanted to come hunt with us this week-end if my grandson hasn't already killed them all-lol. Sure hope he gets one he will be here tomorrow night--stationed about 214 miles away from here in San Antonio. He will take doe or whatever so that for first time he doesnt come home empty handed--Im rooting for him.

Hey Carpetman, We have tried putting the "Rookie" on some Doe before with generally good results. The last time we did it, my buddy John dropped a Rookie off at the trail going in to the Stand, then continued slowly easing down the field another 200yds when he heard a shot. He got concerned the Rookie might have fallen going up into the Stand or dropped his rifle,so he turns around and goes back. Just as he pulls up to the trail the Rookie pops out dragging a 150# 8-pointer.

Best wishes to the Captain!
