Hello Folks.
Any clues about where to find a good outfitter for a cougar hunt in British Columbia?
I have heard Baldy Mountain Outfitters is a good choose.

I believe you will find that to be standard practice here in North America. In general, you pay for the hunt here, not the trophy. We do not charge trophy fees or base price on size of the animal or the successfulness of the hunt.

Very best of luck with your search for a hunt that matches your desires.

spanishunter,

Yeah! There very seldom is a hunt in NA where the whole hunt is not paid up front. For the mountain lion I can offer 99% success rate in Idaho. You will get a cougar and as many bobcats as you'd like to pay for as the hunt progresses. There is a hunt report for my client Jeff P. that hunted last season with these guys here on AR. This hunt is a full court press with multiple guides and excellent dogs.

https://forums.accuratereloadi...8321043/m/2701047672 Check out this link.

I have pix from another hunter I also had on this hunt last season.

There is a hunt available 27 Dec-6 Jan this season and it will allow two cougars.

If you'd like details contact me anytime.

Spanish Hunter. Cat hunting is conducive to weather (fresh snow). Sometimes Mother Nature does not cooperate on the dates that are selected for the hunt. While outfitters probably will not do the cat hunt on a trophy fee. I have had the best results getting a agreement to come back in a few weeks or month at no extra expense (outside of your travel expenses) if the weather conditions were not optimal for tracking on your initial hunt(s). Most reputable outfitters will do this since they have a passion for their hunting and running their dogs. Best of luck. It’s a pretty fun hunt in beautiful country.

Working under the assumption that you had not paid all of the money before shooting the lion, what would happen if you did not shoot a lion?

We had a guide in Hot Sulfur Springs Colorado. He charged $1,000 for the hunt and $1,000 after the kill. That was years ago, so I'm sure the cost is much higher now

You cold say that....normal now is between $6,000 and $12,000.

Skyline,

You are right on the money. I love it when a guy indignantly tells me that he booked a cougar hunt for X dollars when the hunt I'm offering is double that. Then when I ask how the hunt went he tells me the he rode around on snowmachines for 5 days and never saw a fresh track. What's the saying? "Pennie wise dollar foolish."

Yes Mark, that is true but...
How can you distinguish in between a high end operation offering a fair discounted hunt or a worst operation offering an increased in price hunt just to pretend being a high end operation because the price is high?
Is difficult when neither the operator nor the broker are taking any responsibility at all in the result of the hunt.

There are some excellent cat outfits out there and it is not hard to figure out the ones that are producing big cats. Doug ( Chilcotin Hillbilly ) is one of the best. But the best cat outfits are not cheap and I doubt any of them are going to want to change their pricing structure just to suit you. They don't have to and they sell their hunts because people know they run a good outfit and produce big cats. Most of the good ones are usually 90% or better anyways.

As far as "brokers" go, meaning agents I assume, the good ones like Mark weed out the outfitters that do not produce or want to play pricing games. They also give you the straight goods when you want information on the hunts they offer....that is why you use a good agent in the first place.

No body has to change anything to suit me.
Neither I am going to change my point of views.
I am owner of a company, I am getting paid only if I get the job done, same as my employees and I guess same as most of you.
The market is free to set the rules, and I am free to do my will acordingly.
Chilcotin Billy that you have just mentioned is offering a hunt just here stating a price for the 6 days linx hunt and a extra free only if you kill a cougart. So I guess to ask for money depending on the final result is not just a crazy policy from other countries, just depending on how you market your products to try to get the most of it.
I really dont think I will be needing any marketing lessons. Neither was the point on this, just asking for outfitter. To negotiate or not with them is the right of client.

Call ten people that have hunted with the Outfitter and ask them.
I do get your point, however.
Are your business deals always guaranteed to be 100% successful?

Back to the point of your post. I hunted in Montana with Ben Wohlers. I cannot
recommend him enough. I took a 170 Tom the 1st day of the hunt. Yes, that was lucky
to get one that big the first day. However, he was one of the best guides that I have ever
hunted with.

Cat hunting can be extremely tricky because of snow conditions and other factor like hunting pressure and number of cats killed prior to your hunt so you might be able to encounter only small cats or none because of many local hunters will hunt in same area
There is no special hunting areas just for outfitters

It varies a bit from province to province on how it is regulated....but as far as cougar goes the only places you will be hunting them in Canada for non-residents is British Columbia and Alberta. In BC guide-outfitters have assigned territories. Only the licensed outfitter and their licensed assistant guides can guide non-resident hunters in that territory, but resident hunters can also hunt throughout the province subject to the game regulations/seasons for resident hunters.

In Alberta it is similar, but there are not assigned guiding territories, the outfitters have non-resident big game allocations for specific wildlife management units and can have various big game species allocations in different management units around the province. Unlike BC it is possible for more than one outfitter to have allocations to hunt the same species in a given management unit. Here again resident hunters can hunt anywhere in the province subject to the seasons/regulations for resident hunters.
