Wouldn't it just be safer for all of these caliber arguments to simply say, "It is not what you shoot, but how you shoot it"?

While I've taken an elk with the 7-08 in a Remington XP-100, I don't consider it an "elk cartridge." Stuff can happen at anytime on a hunt and as a pessimist, I'd rather error on the side of too much as on too little. Also, alot of the elk hunting I do is in grizzly country. The 7-08 is definitely NOT a grizzly cartridge. I have a safe full of larger caliber rifles I'd take elk hunting over a 7-08. For sure!A friend successfully hunted Colorado Elk with a 6mm Ruger # 1,he'd hit running elk in the neck or head.
