Any of them that there is snow on the grounds.

Cold weather require them to grow thick long fur.

BC might be a good choice also

Londonhunter,

Did you find the brown bear hunt you were looking for? As for cougars I work with an operator in Idaho who I've personally hunted with twice. He's in the Priest Lake area so he might as well be in Canada. He shoots some big cats and logistically it would be easy for you as he picks you up at the Spokane, WA airport and drives you to the hunting area. Let me know if you'd like further details.

To specifically answer your question I don't know that one state consistently produces THE biggest cougars but like all NA game as you go north the body sizes do increase.

Depends upon whether you want a heavy cat with thick hair, or a big skull. Go north if you want big and hairy.

For a long time, the Boone & Crockett Club's record (determined by width and length of skull) was listed as being taken by Theodore Roosevelt near Meeker, Colorado.

Don't know if his record was beaten, but I do know that he took a few big tom lions north of Grand Canyon in Arizona that are not in the book.

Here is the Cat I personally Killed here in Montana in February. 20 minutes from My house. We killed 3 cats last year and the other 2 weren't a whole lot smaller. I outfitt here and we usually guide a couple hunts a year. Let me know if Montana intersts you. In the norhtern states and BC success is usually very high.

Lots of good cougar hunting in both Colorado and Utah. Either one of those would be a good bet to check into.

Sir I would appreciate a PM with the details. My other home is just outside of Sandpoint so just a hop, skip and that's about it I am in Priest Lake.

Kinda hard to beat Western Wyoming when you kill a cat like mine:

Awesome cat SBT! I was going to ask about Wyoming cats, but it looks like I have my answer.

The further North the better. I've been lucky enough to hunt lions in Alberta three times with Byron Stewart (http://www.tntoutfitting.com/). Of the three toms The smallest scored 14 13/16" and the largest went 15 6/16". Alberta has great genetics, and an awesome management system for these cats.
