Woo Hoo! I just had to express my elation online! I drew a Custer State Park Bison tag! Granted, it is only a cow tag but should be great fun, provide a nice bed-spread and a freezer full of meat for the winter. Plan on going in Oct and will post photos when I get back!

Best,

Congrats, John! I'll tell the camels they'll be safe for another year. BTW, my uncle shot a 23 years old wisent cow in Poland (European bison), and it looked VERY impressive in a head mount.

Shoot straight!

Frans,

I would LOVE to hunt Wisent (particularly in Poland)! I have taken plains and Wood Bison so I just need the European variety to complete the triad of shaggy bovids. [Smile] WOW, 23 years old, that is amazing particularly given the lack of genetic diversity in Wisent herds and the fact that they are prone to disease. Tell the Camels I will be after them shortly!
You should join me in Custer! I heard a "well-sourced" rumor that they have EXTRA tags for the cows and young bulls this year. They are up for grabs. Interested?!?!?

Best,

John

Congrats J-T-G! I am not familiar with what the odds are on that draw, but regardless of that, it couldn't have gone to someone that would appreciate it more than you. You may have to change your moniker to "Buffalo John the Greek", or something like that. [Smile]

Good luck on your hunt!

Cheers,
Canuck

Canuck,

Thanks! Actually this is the first year Custer has had cow and "non-trophy" bull hunts so, since apparently no one knew about them, the odds turned out to be 100% for those who put in. Extra tags are currently up for sale. Yes, I am addicted and considering trying to find a broken horned bull the ranger will let me shoot in addition to the cow.

Best,

JohnTheGreek

Coues,

Congrats, the Country Club is definitely "far east" . . . exotic and pricey [Smile] . I never pinned my buddy down to actual street borders for these regions. Maybe past 4th street (or farther) and below 66 is "far east"? I dunno, I haven't been here long enough to really get a grasp on stuff like that. Between Switzer Canyon and 4th is "middle east" and from Switzer through downtown is "near east"?
Are you at home? . . . I'll laugh my ass off if you are here in the NAU library computer lab with me and we are conversing though an electronic medium based in DUBAI for christ's sake.

I agree that all of flag is a bit wierd. Lots of transients, lots of blue collar types, and lots of hot coeds. Did I say that out loud? I mean lots of . . . uh . . . attractive young ladies. [Smile]

Best,

JohnTheGreek

JTG,

I am so sick of the Phoenix heat that I would be willing to stand outside and watch the fire. Let me know.

Glenn,

No offense, but I am convinced that Phoenix Arizona is really just the upper reaches of Hell. God, that place gets to me whenever I am down your way. I will go hunting in October so I'm thinking November holds promise for a nice little BBQ of a big shaggy bovid. I'll keep you up to date!

Best,

JohnTheGreek
