First blood at the Ranch....

I took Mrs. Jtex ( the Boss ) to the Ranch last weekend for her first hunt there. She was very excited to get to hunt after seeing all the animals in the game cam photos. We went to a blind that has been showing a LOT of Aoudads. She really wanted an Aoudad for some strange reason........

We got to the blind for an evening hunt at about 3:30 in the afternoon and settled in. It was very hot! Damn I am getting sick of hot.

At 4:30 the feeder went off and the anticipation started by 5:30 we had seen no animals except for a pair of Jackelopes. Heat and bright moon I guess.

Close to 6:00 she saw movement in the brush behind the feeder. I may have been snoozing just a little, I'm not sure. It was an Aoudad ewe and lamb. They fed around for a while. We enjoyed watching them.

I noticed to my left some movement in the brush and was watching when out walked an Aoudad Ram. I told here there was a pretty good ram comming to the feeder. Before I got the word feeder out she had her rifle up and pointed out the window of the blind. She got wound up pretty tight. Man this is a blood thirsty woman!

I was fooling with her telling her it was too small and we better let it walk, to settle her down a bit. We started talking about shot placement at the different angles and she was getting settled down.

I told her to go ahead and shoot him when she ready.

She hit him good, slight quartering away aiming for the opposite shoulder. I was watching through the binos when she hit him. I could actually see the blood pumping as he took off straight into the feeder. CRASH! I am very glad the feeder was full or he might just have knocked it over. Once he untangled he went about ten yards and piled up.

That has to be the easiest recovery I have ever made on an Aoudad. No mountain climbing, no scree slopes and no ropes. Just drove the jeep up and put him on the hitch haul. I could really get used to this method.

28 1/2" 227lbs intact.

Now that she has first blood out of the way she says she can get serious and look for one of those BIG Aoudads.

I really ain't sure when she got so "kill crazy"???

Her Rifle is a Remington 700 ( Dear God say it ain't so) 7X57mm. I put it together just for her, Shilen Stainless select match, trued action. Heck of a shooter.

Load was 160g Accubond over IMR 4350 at about 2500fps.

Picture the game cam took right after the shot.

If you look closely or zoom in you can see the blood pumping from the heart shot. Might be a bit gruesome for some.

Now she is a big deal she got the first animal on the new place.......big whoopie...

Jim - Congrats on "guiding" your better half to her first kill on the new ranch. Sounds like she really didn't need much help and encouragement. Job well done Mrs. JTEX. That big one is still out there, we will all be looking forward to more pics.

PS - Sending you a PM in a few minutes.

A big congrat's to your wife!

If thats a good Auodad, I can't wait to see what a "monter" or "great" Aoadad is!

To me thats a GIANT!

I have shot a lot of animals but never an Auodad. I will surely be applying for a tag next year.

That is one fine trophy!

Jim,

great stuff.

Other than hernias and heat stroke, cuts and nicks from skinning, going broke fronting the cash for ice, beer, a nice ladies latrine, and fuel, the only problem I forsee will be that now you're an owner rather than a lessee, you may want to "husband" and watch your animals in person and on game cam rather than shoot them (other than the hogs). May be calling you Dr. Doolittle before its over.

With a place like that, if I was 40 years younger I'd be trying to make your daughters acquaintance. LOL

Enjoy, you've earned it, in every respect.

Best,

GWB

Hey there Mr. Jim.
I'd be willing to bet you're gonna have one heck of a time concentrating on work, at work next week.

I'll bet instead of thinking about bidding that next job, you'll be thinking what stand you're gonna be sitting in Saturday morning, after pulling all the SD cards out of your game cams friday afternoon (if not Thursday). Mama and daughter are getting pretty stoked also. No problem figuring out what the girls want for Christmas this year. LOL

I'd say you are a lucky man, but I know better. Hard work, perseverance, delayed gratification, and fidelity. In the long run, just like a bountiful harvest, it pays dividends.

Congrats,

Good on ya'
