Yesterday Danner had a one day online only sale for all their boots at 50% off. Their website could not handle the traffic volume and most people were unable to place their orders. My wife and I tried on 3 different computers for over 2 hours with no luck. I wrote an e-mail complaint and this was the repsonse:

Pat
Thank you for your email. We understand and are aware that our website was having
complications while trying to keep up with the unpredictably high volume of traffic
on Saturday during the Friends and Family sale. We apologize that you were unable
to complete your order. Unfortunately the sale was for Saturday only and we will be
unable to honor any pricing. This sale was intended for Friends and Family of
LaCrosse Footwear employees and was unexpectedly spread throughout the internet. I
apologize for the inconvenience that this may have caused you. We will be modifying
our Friends and Family Sale in the future to reflect the original spirit of the
sale.
If you received the email offer directly from a friend or family member at LaCrosse,
please contact them directly, by end of day Monday, to place your order.
Thank you

I've had good results with Danner.

I blew out a pair of Pronghorns on an elk hunt and they sent me a brand new pair.

If I knew about a 1/2 price on Danners, I'd be all over it like stink on Doo Doo.....

IMO they are the finest footwear for sportsmen anywhere anytime! However it appears it was only for a select group.....
sai la vie!

I would have loved another pair. My original pronghorns from 2003 are my favorite boots ever.

I wouldn't call that bad Customer Service.

I assumed they issued a promo code for for Friends and Family. A "friend or family" member abused the the purpose of the code by circulating it in a manner they shouldn't have and it eventually ended up in the hands of a whole bunch of people that weren't supposed to have it or some similar issue occurred.

The website got overwhelmed.

Danner's response is actually quite reasonable:

"If you received the email offer directly from a friend or family member at LaCrosse,
please contact them directly, by end of day Monday, to place your order."

looks like they are saying...if you were a legitimate recipient, will honor the sale.

It doesn't appear Danner ever intended to say hey everybody 50% off Danner boots.

So I personally can't get upset about "not getting a deal I was never supposed to get anyway"

Mike

Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue.

What I have learned on AR, since 2001:
1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken.
2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps.
3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges.
4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down.
5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine.
6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle.
7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions.
8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA.
9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not.
10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact.
11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores.
12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence.
13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

Danner customer service HAS sucked.

10 years back I bought a pair of Acadias at a local shop. Not top-of-the-line Danner. But $180 10 years ago, nonetheless.

In under 3 weeks the soles started to separate from the uppers at the glue joint. I took the boots back to where I bought them. They said there was nothing they could do for me as all Danner issues were handled by the customer through the Danner company.

So I went home and called Danner. They said they'd be happy to help me. Send the boots back to them. They would determine if they would fix or repair them and I'd have fixed boots or new boots in 6-8 weeks. I asked why it was I just couldn't return the boots to where I'd bought them and exchange for a new pair. "Company policy" is what I was told. So I said to her, "Let me see if I understand what you're telling me. When a guy goes and spends $180 on a pair of your world famous boots, what he really needs to do is spend $360 and buy two pairs so he has something to wear for 2 months while the first pair of junk is in the shop? Is that what I'm to understand?" "It's policy" is all she'd say. I told her not to worry. She'd never hear from me again. Ever.

Since then I've bought most all of my boots from Wal-Mart or the Sprtsman's Guide. They've lasted years longer than the Danners and I know if I ever have to return a pair I will get satisfaction.

I see your points, but let me give you some more info. I got the e-mail from Danner. I own two pairs of Danners and I have been corresponding with them recently about getting one pair reconditioned. Did this make me a "friend" of Danners? Apparently it did. This offer also appeared on a fishing website that Danner sponsored and it urged people to forward it on to others. Is it the end of the world? Certainly not, but I guess I have a problem with a company that backs away from a problem they caused themselves.

P. Jilek,

I would call Danner and explain exactly what you explained here.

Danner may very well offer to extend you the discount based on what they wrote to you in their email.

Try this email right back to Heather Martin and follow up with a phone call.

Dear Heather,

I can compeletely undertsand the challenges faced by Danner over the weekend when your website was swamped with unintended and in Danner's view unqualified friends and family orders. I also think that Danner is doing the right thing by extended the sale to Monday for those that Danner intnded to recieve the special offer.

Given that the offer was extended durectly to me by Danner (see attached email), I would ask that Danner continue to extend the offer to me as clearly Danner intended for me to receive the offer and would not want me to be "punished" because of the innapropriate behavior of others who tried to take advantage of this very special offer which only intended for select persons such as myself.

Sincerely,

Mike
