Nov. 24, 2018, at 12:51 p.m. Grand Teton Park Closes Hunting Area Due to Grizzly Bears JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) — Grand Teton National Park has closed a popular elk hunting area after a park biologist spotted grizzly bears feeding on the carcasses of three elk, at least one that was killed by a hunter. Park spokeswoman Denise Germann tells the Jackson Hole News & Guide the Blacktail Butte-area closure will remain in effect indefinitely, until the carcasses have been consumed. Germann says the park's bear management specialist, Kate Wilmot, hiked to the butte's crest with colleagues and saw two grizzlies feeding on three elk carcasses and believed there were more grizzlies. At least one of the carcasses appeared to have been killed by a hunter but not yet retrieved. Germann encouraged hunters to haven't recovered elk carcasses in the Blacktail Butte area to call park dispatchers to report their locations. ___ Information from: Jackson Hole (Wyo.) they flat out tell you if you kill an elk and a grizzly comes you have burned your tag and lost your elk in the process. non negotiable. now when they learn a gun shot means free food and do show up to take the kill they close the area. is that for the hunters safety, or the grizzly's?

Guys, To me this makes no sense. If you hunt in grizzly or brown bear areas for ungulates the carcasses are likely to attract bears. This is not a news flash. So what? What next? You can 't go in the woods in spring because bears are feeding on the new grasses near the trails. WTF? Mark MARK H. It's a NP not USFS lands. If someone shoots a bear in the NP it would be a shit storm and would open a can of worms you don't want to open. Currently elk hunting is allowed; that could change on a whim.

I’m with kda55 on this but ONLY because it is in Grand Teton National Park. This is a unique opportunity not afforded in very many (any?) other national parks. It’s to protect the bears, I’m sure, but also protects hunter’s images as well because we can all understand the shit show that’d ensue if a hunter shot a grizzly who claimed his elk kill. Those are the park’s rules and if you want to hunt there, that’s part of the deal. As for me, I enjoy hunting in grizzly country and there is plenty of opportunity to do so.
