Interesting. We weigh our deer, bear, moose field dressed. Is weighing them whole the standard practice there?

Not sure about bear, but our deer and hog are weighed after being field dressed. Shoot Safe, Mike NRA Endowment Member

A very nice bear. there is no ground shrinkage when one walks up to a bear that big. In Wisconsin when we had to take our bear into a registration station. Weighing them not field dressed was option depending on how big the bear and how hard it was to get out of the woods. I weighed my 500lb bear not field dress because we rolled him into my tractor bucket. Then dropped him into my pickup box. One then doesn't have to guess about live weight.

We don’t have a large bear population in Georgia, just enough to have hunts in limited areas. I’ve seen two bear while deer hunting from stands in central Georgia. Neither was very big, I’d guess live weight to be less than 200lbs. Can’t imagine what a 620lb bear would look like! Shoot Safe, Mike NRA Endowment Member

I know some states like PA there is a mandatory check for bears and they have a calculation for a dressed bear to get an estimated live weight
