Just for shits 'n' giggles, I'm Thinking about buying one of these to mount on a rifle for let's say... I dunno... a varmint hunt... hog massacre... or some other not-so-important-but-fun-to-video shoot.

I've had some fun sharing videos with friends and family who live far away, but enjoy hunting as much as I do. Unfortunately, it's pretty damn cumbersome to film AND hunt at the same time. Furthermore, I spend a lot of time hunting alone. So a second cameraman is out of the question a great majority of the time.

What do you think? Have any of your done something similar?

I wanted something that was fully self-contained and did not have any dangling wires. wasn't too bulky, and didn't have any moving parts (shockproof).

(These same cameras can be found cheaper on Ebay, but this is the original distributor's description)

I have seen this model in action, but due to the very wide angle lense, it is totally useless at hunting range.

At 170 degrees, I was very afraid of that. I'd estimate that it is equivalent to about a 15mm lens on a full frame CMOS. Good point. The search continues...

Sounds like it would be perfect for recording that last 10 seconds of a fight with a big bull elephant, taking in both tusks and ears in the same movie!
