The rifle should be a good shooter. The scope may perform adequately although, you may want to upgrade in the future. Savage rifles are being looked at with respect. They shoot so well and are very reliable.

I've got one in .270...hunted the first season with the scope that came with it and it was okay, have since upgraded the scope. Good basic rifle, accuracy is fine by me.

I bought a Savage 116 in 7mm STW a 3 years ago. The scope it came with was a Simmons 3-9x40, and was a piece of garbage. The rifle is superb. I get .703 inch groups with it using handloads, and have upgraded the scope. All in all, I am very happy with the rifle. I wonder if a Remington will get you any tighter groups, or how do they justify the extra money they get for a rifle??????

I've found my 111FC 30-06 to be accurate and reliable, though ugly. But all those things were what I was looking for. The Simons scope and rings are cheap and I'll be swapping them out sometime. The bluing is rather thin and scratches easily. For an inexpensive rifle I don't think you could go wrong. bill
