Our new provincial government has officially reinstated grizzly hunting in B.C.

This was one of the promises they made during their election campaign two months ago, and they have acted on it as quickly as possible. I already have a limited entry hunting synopsis, and they will be allowing grizzly hunting this fall in some regions (just as before the moratorium was instated by the previous government).

Here is a recent news release:

VICTORIA The government is honouring its election commitment to replace the blanket moratorium on grizzly bear hunting with regional moratoriums and a scientific peer review panel, Water, Land and Air Protection Minister Joyce Murray announced today.

"To ensure sound management of our wildlife, its essential that all wildlife decisions are based on science, using the best quality data and analysis," Murray said.

"The blanket moratorium on grizzly bear hunting was imposed by the previous government for political reasons and was inconsistent with the wildlife branchs own analysis. We made a commitment to the people that we would replace the blanket moratorium with a proper peer review by scientists and biologists, and with regional moratoriums where appropriate. We are honouring that commitment today."

The scientific panel of independent experts will review and comment on grizzly management practices to ensure public confidence in the provinces grizzly bear conservation strategy and research. The panel will have authority to receive scientific submissions, and its recommendations will be made public.

The wildlife branch conducts detailed analysis of B.C.s grizzly bear populations using advanced scientific methods, including DNA analysis. Ministry biologists have confirmed there are at least 13,000 grizzly bears in British Columbia.

"Our government is committed to maintaining strong scientific standards for wildlife management and protection and ensuring openness and accountability in all our decisions," Murray said. "Where grizzly bear populations are healthy, a carefully managed hunt will be permitted. Conservation science will dictate which moratoriums will remain in place. Our scientific panel will help ensure public trust and confidence in wildlife management decisions."

This is good news for B.C., and those that like to hunt here.

I'd like to thank all of you that helped protest the moratorium, prior to its establishment this spring. I am sure our new government wouldn't have had this on their platform if it weren't for all those that sent in their opinions.

Regards,

Canuck

Canuck,

I hope this is the start of some practical game and gun laws in Canada. I hear Canadian customs tends to give Yanks a bad time. (Good thing I'm a nice Texas boy!)

I don't know what you guys are talking about-What stupid gun law?

The law was very weell thought out and will keep guns away from people who would misuse them.

Just ask the mafia, Asian gangs, Hell's Angels, etc. They are all standing in line to buy permits and register their guns.
