I hear through the grapevine that an American and his wife were arrested for poaching a big horn in Sonora. Does anyone know anything about that?

Could it be Todd Rice? We can only hope.

This is from an outfitter friend of mine....

"I know an outfitter just got caught down there killing one on the wrong ranch. I would rather not say who though, it's not my place. I bet it's the same thing you heard. They got nailed"

I asked if the person was vertically challenged because Todd Rice isn't but a few inches away from legally being a midget and he laughed and said that it was not Todd Rice. He said "we aren't that lucky"

I'm sure I can get a name today

What a mess for the clients if in fact the Outfitter had them on the wrong ranch, ouch. Been to Mexico many many times but never been in a Mexican jail but I'm guessing it's no picnic.

Okay glad we've cleared that up!
I always found that knowing when to offer Mordido (the bribe) in Mexico was key to staying out of the slammer. $20, 50 or 100 depending on the severity of the problem and applied at the right time always worked for me.
Feb 2nd this year I had to cough up 50$ in La Paz to stay out of the cuffs. I cut off a Mexican Cop car in heavy traffic and they got me, they claimed my driving was a hazard.

It could surprise you but is happening a lot in sonora regarding Big Horns, to shoot one in the wrong ranch,,,, the outfitter knows he is doing it illegally and is in fact poaching.

Then you can not be a true outfitter.

I take back what I said about you not being a true outfitter.

Clearly your Mexico credentials are in order. Smiler

Well?????

When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere.

NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR.

I have come to understand that in hunting, the goal is not the goal but the process.

I don't know him, but a quick internet search shows him to be a guide/outfitter. Is he the one who shot the sheep? Is his wife arrested as well?

Is this a real charge or is he being extorted?

I have no idea of what the whole story is but I do know that I called and talked briefly to Thomas about this and his side of the story is that they were never arrested and that another outfit is spreading some misinformation about everything. I can tell you for a fact that they are advertising with the ram in question, the hunter is a friend of mine and is happy and is planning a return trip, Thomas was in SLC at the western hunt expo and he has back down in Mexico looking at ranches right now. As always there are two sides to every story but I don't know any more details. That being said, the fact that they are advertising with the sheep and he is back in Mexico looking at ranches leads me to believe that this is being blown out of proportion. Time will tell and don't kill the messenger

I know nothing about it other than the name I was told and the allegation that he had been arrested. It may or may not be true. Just trying to find out.

I would think if he got arrested down there for anything severe that he wouldn't be back here and then going back down there unless he paid some big money under the table. It doesn't sound like that's the case from what Drummond is saying, but who knows for sure other than the guy himself.

Drum, have you or any of your outfitter buddies, MX ranchers, etc heard anything out of Rice since all this stuff came out? I wonder if the Muley Crazy guys are aware of this?
