With all the new technology, is there any "must have" features with a Trail Camera? I am sure the $49.99 model leaves a lot to be desired, but at the same time I don't have $750 to check out what's happening in the neighborhood. Are there any models to be avoided? Thanks in advance for all help. Jim "Bwana Umfundi" NRA

In my experience, you don't need all the "new" tech stuff. I've been using the moultrie cheap 5.0,6.0 for several years. $70.00 and they work fine. They do eat batteries though.

Yes, I agree. Simple and basic is good. An 8.0 megapixel game camera? WTF? Do want an 11x17" poster print of your deer? I've found 4.0 megapixels more than sufficient. How fast the camera takes a picture is important though. If it takes 10 seconds to "wakeup" once it senses something you're going to miss a lot of stuff. Some of the new ones work in as little as 2 or 3 seconds. LWD

I bought two older model Moultries on close-out last March for $70 each. They are flash versions, rather big/heavy, and use a lot of D batteries. But I've had a blast with them and learned a great deal about the deer movement in the ~400 acre area I'm hunting on. My next ones will be infrared and much smaller, but I just don't feel a pressing need to upgrade. I get plenty of good-enough photos with the gear I've got!

Anybody try the Wildgame Innovations brand? Lots of features and low priced too... Robert If we can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people, under the pretense of taking care of them, they must become happy. Thomas Jefferson, 1802

I bought the new Bushnell 8 megapixel one for 200 bucks. It takes some great nighttime pics and the battery life is great. The only problem is that sometimes the daytime pics are almost all white, I went to the lower amount of pixels like the book said to but they still turn out white.

These were taken with such a camara I hunt public land so my trail cams are $50 units. The fuzzy photos don't bother me, I like the day and time stamp on the bottom and they are easy to set up. They are all I need. ________________________________________________ Maker of The Frankenstud Sling Keeper Proudly made in the USA Acepting all forms of payment
