Well we my be relocating to Las Vegas in January. I Would like to know how the hunting is Nevada for Big Game and Varmint. How do they do there license for Big Game
In Nevada, the only big game is the mule deer. They have bighorn sheep, antelope, and some elk but to draw a tag for these is almost impossible, but put in anyway. To hunt Mulies you buy a liscense and put in for a draw. Fill out the area where you want to hunt and the order of preference, you get 3 choices. They draw names for each area and if you are picked you get to hunt that area. If not then you don't get to hunt deer that year. If not picked then you get an extra draw the next year. I was able to hunt 2 out of 4 years that I put in for the draw. You can also get your money back for your liscense if you don't hunt anything else. You do need to have a hunter education class under your belt unless you were born before 1960 and if you get picked for antelope then you have to take a class on that as well. Quail, chucker, turkey, sage grouse and some pheasant are all huntable and usually in good numbers. If you hunt varmint then coyote is the only game in town. You don't need a liscense to hunt them if you are a resident. This may have changed since I was there. There are good dove and duck hunting if you scout out an area. It is desert and setting up near a water hole can provide good action. Most hunters from Vegas head north and east to hunt. HTH
