I need a quality day pack capable of carrying a 20" long spotting scope and tripod. Good Shoulder straps and the ability to distribute the load is a must.
I have heard about the kifaru packs and have visited the site. Any kifaru pack users? Any comments?? Does the gun packer system work as well as they claim??
Are they worth the money?? Anyone discount them??

I have used a lot of packs over the last 30 plus years and the Kifaru is the best I've found. It is comfortable well made and adaptable. The gun bearer works well.

The Kifaru line looks like its the one I'll pick from.
Does anyone discount them? Or are they available only directly from the factory?

Frank,

Best to buy it direct because they will FIT it to your body size and type. I use the LongHunter with the hydration bladder and the optional cargo seat. -TONY

Tony,

THE big concern is the 5# tripod and BIG spotting scope. What do you do to carry a scope and tripod? Can a guy just stuff it all in or should the tripod be lashed to the outside? Were you the guy that mentioned that they made you a tripod case? If so elaborate......

I'll give them a call on Monday for some specifics.

Thanks,

FN

Frank,

Yup, I was the one with the tripod case. It's made of a soft but heavyweight camo material and has straps attached that match up to the straps on the pack. The top has a zipper that opens plenty wide to remove the tripod. All you need to do is provide them with the measurements -- diameter and length -- you will need.

When I went to Africa, I even used the case to pack my tripod in with my rifles in a Tufpak case.

I rarely use a spotting scope because I prefer 15x binocs. BUT...Kifaru will also make you an external case for the scope. It should fit in the pack just fine without the bulky tripod, though.

if I get a chance later today, I'll take a digital image of the setup. -TONY
