Carole Baskin brings her celebrity to Colorado to ban trophy hunting

DENVER (KDVR) — The 2020 documentary “Tiger King” made Joe Exotic a household name. But it also elevated his long-time nemesis, animal rights advocate Carole Baskin.

She’s using her celebrity to get behind a new ballot initiative in Colorado. Baskin joined Channel 2 for an exclusive conversation.

Baskin claims the “trophy hunting” of mountain lions, along with the hunting of bobcats and lynx for their pelts, ought to be banned. She is backing the work of the nonprofit “Cats Aren’t Trophies.”

The grassroots group is seeking signatures for a ballot measure to be presented to Colorado voters this fall.

“When you have trophy hunters, they take out the biggest cats they can find, the oldest cats, the most beautiful, and these are the cats that keep the ecosystem together,” Baskin said. “It astounds me that there are people that find it fun to find these animals and kill them, to torture and maim and kill them, and call it hunting.”

Colorado Parks and Wildlife hasn’t taken a position on the proposed ballot measure, but it’s worth noting that trophy hunting is already technically “illegal” in Colorado. Hunters are required to eat and use what they kill.

Well Colorado has already went to the dogs (wolves) so it will go to the cats as well. It’s pitiful a simple majority can update the state constitution and pass measures that don’t impact the big cities.

Remember the show Tiger King from a few years ago?
I used to live 5 min from her Big Cat Rescue in Tampa
Took my kids there when they were little.
Her “former husband” ….picked her up in his truck (wink wink) on Busch Blvd when she was young… I.e. where the only plausible explanation to be there would be she was a prostitute (IMO..and anyone who knows the area)
Said husband famously disappeared forever and was declared dead. It was (and is) STRONGLY suspected she fed him to the cats. He was worth several million dollars….then….well. She was suddenly when he went poof….

The woman is bad bad news and not someone to prop up as righteous

I'm betting (sadly) that Colorado has been kalifornicated to the point that she will be at least partially successful with her ballot initiative.

It is not you they are worried about. The non-hunting front range population is the target.

Unfortunately Colorado has its share of Fruitcakes. It has always been that way. The last 25 years the numbers of them have increased exponentially with the mass migration and population gains.
