A friend of mine just shot a 7X9 214.5 inch mule deer here in Nevada. 678 yard shot with a 25-06 AI and a Leupold scope. Great deer!

What a brute!

What area did he get him in? I leave out Tuesday for my hunt. If I could see something half as nice as that i'd be happy.

Darn Vaughn, that's a sod of a muley buck. Congrats to your buddy.

Yes it is Russell. tu2 Scott: I had 12 preference points here in Nevada in 2017 and used them on a hunt that fall. Didn't see a buck worth shooting in a full week of hard hunting and it was Area 24-the primo area. Mad Was an expensive hunt, with a guide and all. But, that's hunting. I'll never wait that long again to put in for the good areas. They say that I could have drawn Area 24 with 5 preference points, so in essence, I wasted points and years by waiting. Africa was calling me every year and that was the real reason that I didn't get serious again about Nevada mule deer until last year. Big Grin

Thats a beaut! Ive been saving up points for the Henry's here in Utah for well over a decade now. Some day I'll draw it.

Im curious, what bullets does he use in his 25-06?

Wstrnhuntr: Not sure what he used. The gun that he shot the big mule deer with was borrowed from his guide, so I must suppose that the guide had also supplied the ammo. Cal (the hunter) told me that his boys were using his regular deer rifle on another hunt, and so he chose to use the guide's gun which had been made available to him. Big Grin The mule deer buck of a lifetime, for sure! tu2

Its been life more than points that've kept me waiting. Recently I've been to occupied in other directions to do much more than buy points. I think I've got more or less ten points in Oregon too.

Ive got lots of ideas about a horseback hunt or a drop camp or back pack in somewhere,.....who knows.

In the mean time theres pheasants and mallards, trout and moose, yeah! maybe even a trip back to Africa. Big Grin

Excessive regulations and rules keep a lot of people form hunting places.

Tree'Em: Not sure his age. I'll ask the next time that I talk with Cal. Nevada is a draw state. No over the counter tags, with the exception of Mountain Lion. EVERY big game animal is a draw here (Elk, Antelope, Mule Deer, Big Horn Sheep, Mountain Goat, Bear). Moose and Wolf are illegal to harvest (Never seen either here, but who knows). Big Grin
