From the Sunday, April 9th, Chicago Sun Times CRYING WOLF? A 75-pound female canine was shot Wednesday in Marshall County and sent for testing by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Peoria Journal Star reported Friday. Is it a wolf or some hybrid? There have been three confirmed wolves in modern Illinois. The first modern wolf in Illinois was shot by coyote hunter Randy Worker in December 2002 in Marshall County, just a couple of miles from where the latest canine was shot. The second modern wolf, killed by vehicle, was found Feb. 17, 2005, in Lake County. The third was shot by coyote hunter Seth Hall in Pike County in December.
