Just got back Texas hunting hogs with several differant calibers.

This weekend I killed hogs with a 460 wby Mk V way to much gun for me. I really didn't like it. Frowner The owner of it told be the loads were 450 gr barnes X at max vel. Kills hogs just fine.

But I realized that a 458 lot with a couple of hundred fps less vel most likely was very do able.

I also shot a bunch with my 416 taylor 350 gr speer mag tip at 2450 kills them just fine. several hogs and one yote. I found out that if you shoot a yote at 30yards with it they don't go far. Wink After using the 460 it felt like a medium bore. The 25 inch barrel wasn't any trouble in the brush had no problem killing several hogs on the run with it. Hangs and swings really well. 10lbs loaded scoped and slinged.

Shot some hogs with my Ruger No.3 in 45-70 460 gr hard cast at 1450 kills them very well lots of fun. Drive one between the shoulders out the mouth drops them right there. Roll Eyes

Shot some with my 338 wm 250 gr at around 2600 worked as well as ever. Use it many times before.

Killed around a 300 lb sow with my 5.5 inch redhawk with 315 gr hard cast lee bullet at 1300 fps drove it in the front shoulder came out half way back shot fired at about 15 feet. The hog ran appox 100 yards then dropped over.

The 300wby and 308 and 06 we had along work well also.

Over all we shot 23 hogs and 4 yotes still hunting some thick brush. Great time had by one and all

Sorry we couldn't have provided a break from the weather for you. We're kinda having a Wisconsin winter here this year.....it really sucks btw!!!!

Sounds like you had a lot of shooting ops. Where'd you go?

Regards,
Scott

We were hunting near Cameron TX. weather was 40 at night 60 during the day. Expect last day 50 at night was sunny and 75 when we head north.

Hit snow just north of KC big drop in temp was 2 above when I woke up at home on Tuesday morning.

I didn't want to head back. I might just have to retire next Jan and snow bird for a while.

Wis winter TX I just don't think it got to -35 for weeks on end there with a few feet of snow on the ground. Snow on the ground from thanksgiving to middle of march or frist week of april. One snow storm and in the teens don't make a Wis winter.

I found the weather there to be very nice in the 30's would have been a improvement.

I want to snow bird down there, in a few years to, all depends on what the economy does. I think they are called winter Texans, maybe find a part time job.
