I do not have a facebook account, but wanted to post a link to my neighbors elk pic.

This fine gentleman has lived in this small community all of his life and drew a Landowner
Elk tag here in Utah, at age 100!. I have not met a finer or more deserving person. Truly a great accomplishment and example. If someone would be so kind to post the pic to AR, I would appreciate it.

I cannot imagine the fine hunts he has enjoyed throughout his life. I am hoping he has many more!

Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue.

What I have learned on AR, since 2001:
1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken.
2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps.
3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges.
4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down.
5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine.
6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle.
7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions.
8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA.
9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not.
10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact.
11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores.
12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence.
13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

Thank you Sir for posting the pic.

This gentleman still goes to his ranch and helps his son feed cows every morning! Great legacy for all of us, no doubt!

Thanks for posting and please convey to your neighbor my congratulations and this 67 year old's envy. I hope I continue to enjoy the woods and marsh coming alive as the sun rises with a rife or shotgun in my hand until the end.

Life is a blessing. That opportunity after 100 years of Life is a great blessing. Another Caleb is what comes to my mind.
Caleb at 85 went up to the mountains and fought the giants and removed them from the Land. His strength was not diminished and his eyes undimmed.

Jos 14:7 Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadeshbarnea to espy out the land; and I brought him word again as it was in mine heart.
Jos 14:8 Nevertheless my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people melt: but I wholly followed the LORD my God.
Jos 14:9 And Moses sware on that day, saying, Surely the land whereon thy feet have trodden shall be thine inheritance, and thy children's for ever, because thou hast wholly followed the LORD my God.
Jos 14:10 And now, behold, the LORD hath kept me alive, as he said, these forty and five years, even since the LORD spake this word unto Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness: and now, lo, I am this day fourscore and five years old.
Jos 14:11 As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to come in.
Jos 14:12 Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the LORD will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD said.

"The liberty enjoyed by the people of these states of worshiping Almighty God agreeably to their conscience, is not only among the choicest of their blessings, but also of their rights."
~George Washington - 1789

Fantastic!

Please tell him well done from all of us here.

I plan to shoot a cape buffalo on my 100th birthday!

Not surprised at some of the stupid remarks on FB though!

Saeed:

I noticed some of the idiotic comments. One of the last ones was by some idiot named Simon. You ought to see his FB page. I wonder if this loser would have the guts to make comments like that to someones face? Its hard to believe there are nut jobs like that!

Jeremy:

Yes, he does not look 100. Better yet, his memory is great. His sister lived to be 102! My son had a school report to do in Middle School. The report was to interview someone in your family or community. I encouraged my son to interview this Gentleman.

I of course went with because I was interested as much (or more) as my son to hear what he had to say.

When he was very young, he spoke about how there were very few cars (mostly they were still using horses)! Also, he told us about some friends who decided to skip school one day. well, the local Sheriff didn't like it and locked them up for a few hours! Can you imagine that happenening today??

Much more respect back then for sure. Nice to see all the great comments, I am sure he would be most grateful.

What an awesome story. Imagine the stories that old gentleman has to tell. Thanks for posting.

"...I advise the gun. While this gives a moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprize, and independance to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks." Thomas Jefferson
