The following appeared in the Nation in Brief section (p. A7) of Saturday's (Nov. 24)Washington Post:

GRAPEVINE, TEX. -- An elk hunter's rifle accidentally went off at the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport as the owner tried to show a ticket agent that the weapon was not loaded. No one was hurt when the bullet went through a window and landed in a planter. The man and his wife were allowed to board a later flight.

So, one does not actually have to be ON the plane to be in mortal danger.
