Jeff,

There may be relatively few deer... but with just the two of us hunting there we shouldn't have to worry about competition from other hunters!

Anyone else!?!?

Thanks,
Bob

I drove thru Lake Placid last week on my way to Potsdam from Ticonderoga. What a beautiful area.

If you want to think logging areas, see if you can hunt paper company land. In the Midwest most paper companies let anyone hunt on their land (although Potlach in MN just changed that). I am not sure of the land owndership patterns in that area; not even sure if there is logging in that area. Paper company and state foresters will clue you in to what was logged recently.

Yes, there isn't as many deer as in the southern areas of the state but It isn't to bad. You just need to move around a little bit and you'll find them. Hell locally I think you can shoot 3 or 4 this year if you include bow hunting.Season is longer here then most which is a big advantage. But you will not be the only one out there as almost everyone from the Adrondacks hunts.Since you've been to Lake placid you should know thats the largest Town in Essex County (Pop 6000). Not much else to do. I get to hunt at least 50 days year big game and that' with a wife and a Job. Get a muzzleloader! 2 weeks a year season more. If you got a rifle that can shoot a 100 yards it's good enough. The hunting in Vermonts mountains has to be the same. I look at Vermont everyday and the mountains behind the COWS look the same. Anyway enjoy yourself and dress warm for somedays the Temp and the amount of Deer you see will be the same. Good luck! Bruce P.S. The bucks aren't bad here, at least a 9 point the last 3 seasons.
