I lucked out in Texas and scored on a nice Panhandle buck. He came in chasing two doe around 4:45 and with only does in the plot, I figured he'd hang around for a while. With no other big bucks emerging from the brush by 5:45, I decided to end this big boy's fun. 250yds quartering away with a 20mph cross wind. Bang-flop and the new Sako Finnlight 270 win is officially broken in:

He would've went 139, but had a busted brow for a loss of 3". Never taken a buck with 25" mains, I'm quite pleased. Now just trying to decide which form to go with on the mount.

Ya'll have a good one,

Cool, thats a nice buck. Where in the panhandle were you hunting? I live in Wellington, down in the se corner. The bucks have been moving very good here, the rut has been slamming for about 2 weeks.

Thanks Guys!!

JTP, got him over in Grey, so not too far from you. Yeah man, they were giving the does heck last week and alot of the bucks were already getting broken up alittle. They responded well to the horns when they weren't too wrapped up in does.

Have a Good One,

I hunt in NW Collingsworth County, so probably even closer than you think. Our land is out around Quail/Marilla. Lots of really good deer running around this year, more than I have seen in several years. This is also the most pronounced rut I have seen in several years as well. Congrats again on a fine Panhandle buck!

I shot a management buck this year, not a bad deer, one that was mature but yet not likely to get much better as he aged. He was a nine with a pretty fair amount of mass, just not very wide and with mediocre tine length. Saw a really beautiful 10 pointer that same afternoon that would probably have went in the mid 150's, but it was just not in the cards that day. He was chasing and I just couldn't get a shot. Also chased a beautiful 12 back during bow season but he just wasn't in the cards either. But then again, that's why it is hunting and not killing.

That's an AWESOME buck. Congrats! thumb

Don't forget pictures once the mount is done as well. I'm curious to see what direction you go with the mount as that buck has lots of possibilites for looking good on the wall.

Congrats again!
Bobby

Here is a little eye candy... this is the buck I was chasing during bow season. Main frame 10 with a couple extras. I just missed him several diffent times. Oh yeah, I don't mean missed as in missed the shot, I mean just wrong place wrong day.

JTPinTX-

That's a super buck...and one with some growing time ahead of him if he makes it another year or two.

With that being said, it would be mighty tough to pass up an opportunity like that.

Will do Bobby. Since he was chasing the ladies around with his ears laid back, I may go with a full sneak, ears laid back. Can't really tell in the pics, but both of his ears are torn open from fighting.

JTP, that's a heck of a buck!

I think the rainfall during the spring and summer really helped this year as most of the bucks I've been hearing about in that area are alittle better than usual.

Have a Good One and good luck getting a tag on that bruiser next year.

We have seen alot of good bucks this year, most of them still needed another year or two to really blossom. I think the timing on the rain was pretty good, even though there wasn't alot of it. Maybe that buck Dad and I have been chasing will make it another year, we haven't gotton any pics of him lately, but haven't heard of him being killed either. Who knows.

Reloader, do you hunt up here every year or was this a one time deal?

I think that buck of yours would look cool as a sneak.

Good Luck Frank.

JTP, I've hunted up there a few times and plan to go again next year. I do Turkey hunt there every year as we lease a small place.

It's nice to get away from La and hunt different country. It's so thick here that you may only see a few deer a week. With the open country in that area, you may see more in one hunt than we see all season long around here.

Heading to Iowa this week to chase them again.

Ya'll have a good one,
