If a guy wanted to hunt bull elk on the national elk refuge late season, what unit(s) to apply for. I know, getting kind of late to worry about it, but if I can figure it out I'll let them have my money for a month. Thanks.

I can't answer your question specifically but right now you'd have to get your application into Fedex for 1-day shipment or Saturday delivery as the deadline is Jan. 31. Your map is here: http://gf.state.wy.us/downloads/pdf/04appbooklet/NR04_21.pdf The main non-res hunting page is here: http://gf.state.wy.us/wildlife/applications/nonres_03.asp And the top page of the Wyoming site is here: http://gf.state.wy.us/ Good luck. It will be interesting to know if anyone has more specific information. Reed

Area 75 will give you a park permit and make you eligable for the elk refuge drawing. Also look at 77 and 79.

Sorry 300winnie...you can't hunt late season bull elk on the national elk refuge (hunt area 77). The first weekend the season is open, they cater to young hunters and allow individuals to hunt any elk, however that is just two days long. A good choice for bull elk is area 75 type 1, however the odds of drawing are pretty poor. Area 79 type 1 is a good choice too. Both of these areas are in Grand Teton National Park, so you'll be required to pack pepper spray. These hunts are very weather dependent, so if you draw pray for a lot of snow!!!!

And pray the snow comes when you can race up and hunt that weekend. Those elk move through there real quick Area 75 Type 1 is a hunt that you call and check the status on almost daily. When they say the elk are moving through, you jump in your truck and drive all night.
