Just got back from my bear hunt. Excellent, excellent trip. Only ended up with one bear for 3 tags, but it was still a great hunt.

We didn't really hunt bear very hard and still got to shoot at 2 of them. First one was a 450 yard shot at a decent black bear that just didn't quite connect. Saturday my friend found another one at 100 yards. Not a big bear, probably 170-200, but a nice brown color. Perfect shot, she went 10 feet, dropped and then rolled 200 yards down to the bottom of a ravine. We got her, but not without some effort. The pack out is what killed us. We'd hiked in 3 miles on Sheep Mountain to get to her, then had to go back out 3 more through some of the steepest country out there. Took most of the day to do.

Snow was a problem. Couldn't get too far up most of the roads. If you're willing to hike, you can find some game, but not much is down low.

Didn't get any turkeys. Found one group of 5 toms and 20 hens, but they would not respond to us. We did however catch some great fish in the Snake. 4 lb smallmouth, 6 lb channel cats, big trout and tons of crappie.

All in all excellent trip. Hopefully I'll have some pictures to post in the near future. Had a great time out in some of the most beautiful country in the Nation! Still a few more weeks left in the season, might head back out there again but the long 12 hour drive is a killer.

Hi Coot22

I can relate to that steep country.
It is a real leg workout going up and down
steep country.
I can imagine the struggle involved in getting that bear out of that ravine.

Mind you I don't like the thought of SNOW and COLD.

I don't know how you guys go hunting when it is so cold.
I don't think I would get out of bed to go hunting if there was SNOW outside.

I live in a subtropical area and it NEVER snows. We do get the occasional frost though, that is cold enough for me.
