One worth chasing so far
Checked cameras today. This was the nicest buck on camera and pretty average for 'mature' in my area. I'd say he's 3.5 years and in gorgeous condition.

Looks like he has done very well on Summer feed.
Great venison.

I am actually very surprised as there has been severe drought here since May. I do not put feed out for deer either. I do provide habitat and cover.

Just think what he might look like in another year or two.

I know what he would look like if I saw him.

Seasoned pan seared back strap in butter and olive oil; removed sauté onion, carrots, and celery, add meat back add Chardonnay, woreshire, and melt ginger, bring to simmer, cook for 1 hr removing meat after 30 minutes, after 1 hr add one stick of butter stirring.

Slice strap and ladle sauce.

Very nice! I have some monsters in my yard, but I live in the Broadmoor Bluffs part of Colorado Springs so can't shoot them lol Next time I see a huge one I'll take a picture and post it

I'd love to see the monsters since I really don't get any around here. Always nice to see impressive bucks. Smiler

Here's another one. He finished out bigger than I thought he would. Looks like 2.5 years? What do you think?

I just ordered some trail cameras to be delivered this week. My daughter has seen a "Huge" 10-12 point on the driveway, (1/4 mile long) three times taking her son to the bus stop in the morning.

Ann I think you’re spot on in ageing those 2 bucks. The first one is 3, and the second one is 2 years old. I’ll be hunting in your old stomping grounds north of Inlay City MI in less than 2 months.

How do you age a deer just by looking at them? Without a tooth is this not just speculation? Just curious.

To age a buck I look at several factors:
1) Thickness of neck;
2) Thickness of chest;
3) Thickness of antler bases;
4) When rut is underway, the blackness of tarsal glands:
5) Starting at age 4+, the buck’s back starts to sway down.
