I've been approached by a company for a potential job somewhere out west. They said I could pick where I wanted to live but they suggested somewhere around Colorado because most of the work will be involving irrigation canals out west. My finace and I are from Oklahoma so we would like to stay somewhere within a days drive of home, if possible. Therefore, we need some advice on possible places to live. Somewhat rural for my taste but within a short distance for my fiance's taste. Do I need to mention great hunting? We've been thinking somewhere in eastern CO, NM, TX panhandle or even western KS.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Graybird

My wife and I have been looking at south central Colorado as a possible place to retire, possibly in The Alamosa area. It is central to where most of our kids are. We have two Daughters in California, one in Texas, and my son is moving to Arizona this fall. Seems that most of south central Co has more reasonable property prices than the rest of the state, in which the economy is drven by tourism, and multimillionaires looking to "get back to nature", and generally mucking it up for everyone else.
What part of OK are are you from? My wife has a lot of family in the Grand Lake area, Jay, and Colcord.

I lived in Durango, Colorado for several years and liked it. There are also some very pretty areas in Northern New Mexico. If you like to shoot guns (am I on the right forum?), Prescott Arizona area is great.
