The photograph below is a scan of 3 showing (1)me and my guide, Johnnie Hamilton with my goat, (2) a photo of my goat, gun and knife and (3)a photo of my good friend Dale Rich and his goat. The hunts took place August 23, 2002 near Folsom, NM. Dale made a great shot on his antelope from about 225 yards while the goat was looking at him with a hit right at the base of the neck. I managed to hit mine on the point of the shoulder from about 340 yards away as he was quartering slightly toward me. The exit wound can be seen in the photo. Dale was shooting a Colt Sauer in 243 caliber with a Burris compact 3X9 scope and I was using my very old Sears M-53 (Winchester M-70 copy) with a Simmons 3X9 scope in 270 Winchester. Dale using Premier 90 grain factory loads and I was using factory Hornady 150 grain SST ammo. Bullet performance was great for both shots. The antelope were very spooky for so early in the season. We were able to stalk up on Dale's goat and get a fairly close shot, but mine was not getting any closer when I took the shot.
Johnnie has great areas for elk, mule deer, bear and mountain lion in MN and CO with a few hunts still available for this year. If anyone is interested I will gladly provide contact information. He is a great guide and I have hunted with him for the past 4 years.
