I have some moose hunting statistics for Scandinavia:

Finland 67100 (2000)
Sweden 108688 (2000/01)
Norway 37300 (2001)
-----------------------
213088

In Sweden they shot a lot more moose in the 1980-90.

How many moose are shot in the USA and Canada?

Red deer statistics:

Norway 23600 (2001)
Denmark 3400(1999/00, its not the same sort of red deer as in Norway)
Sweden 1400 (200/01 same sort as in Denmark)
Finland 14859 Whitetaildeer!!(2000)

A norwegian deer is bigger than a whitetaildeer but smaller than an elk.Carcase of the biggest official measured deer was 446 pound (202.5kg)about a week(not 100% sure) after it was shot.

Roe deer:
Norway 31300(2000)
Sweden 170000(2000/01)
Denmark 103800(1999/00)
Finland only 567(2000)

In Norway we also hunt reindeer(smaller than a caribou).
Last year we shot about 7000,but some years we shoot over 10000.

I think overall in the northamerican continent we have much higher amounts of game, and hunters.

In 1999 in Michigan alone there were 20,000,000 white tail deer and 20,000,000 hunters, or so I was told by a game official. Obviously not everyone is sucessful, because some people are only after trophy bucks, and some people are not even out to hunt deer. Just hunters in general.

I would like to hear about the raindeer hunting. What is the typical hunt like? How much meat is kept with a good sized one?

Thanks,

Buell

In Alberta, we have about 120,000 hunters. We hunt whitetail deer, mule deer, elk, moose, antelope, black bear, grizzly bear, dall sheep, wolves, coyotes, and cougars. Sometimes mountain goat is on the list. The woodland and mountain caribou are protected right now, so for caribou we have to go up to the territories, where we also have barren ground grizzly, polar bear, musk ox, and more mountain sheep and goats. I don't know what the stats are for who bags what. There are no driven hunts, dogs can only be used on cougars and vermin, baiting bears is legal. I think that about covers it. - Dan

Iam most interested in moose statistics because i have heard that we shoot more moose in Scandinavia than in the whole North America. America is so big so i find it a bit hard to believe.
Can someone verify this?
