Hi there

I have a new ruger #1 stainless in 300 win and I also have reloder 22 powder. I'm looking at loading 3 bullets with this powder. here is what I think I'll load
75 grains for 200 gr. Nosler Partition
80 grains for 168 gr. Hornady A-max
85 grains for 110 gr. Hornady

I'll work them up but I'm thinking these will be about max loads. Although I've been told that the falling block design is very safe.

Any comments/help

Work up in .2 - .3 gr increments from the starting load listed in your manual, as with any cartridge in any rifle.

While the #1 is an exceptionally strong action, it does not have the camming force of a bolt action to extract a sticky case, so you might find you have reached your max load before you are at the listed max in your manual.

Hi bellhender, I own exactly the same gun but haven't gone up to the 200 grain bullets yet. I shoot the 180 grain Nosler Partition with, I believe 75 or 75.5 grains of Reloader 22. Right out of the latest Nosler manual. Don't quote me I could be mixing it up with the 165 grain Balistic Tip load, but I think that was Reloader 19. I am at work so I don't have my manual for reference. I chronographed this load at a little over 3200 feet per second, about 5000 feet altitude. I highly recommend measureing your chamber. I owned a previous No. 1 in blue and wood stock that had a real long chamber which I had to load hotter than the book to get it to shoot good groups. The new stainless was considerably shorter and shoots good groups right at the maximum load in the book. I am going to try the Partition Gold Moly coated next. I shot them out of a 270 and got higher velocities then the book said. I had to load really hot before I started having extraction problems, but I agree with the previous comment about that. I load close to the lands of the barrel( a safe recommeded amount) and get really good groups. Snow man bullet holes at 100 yards. I have a Leupold 4.5 x 50 mm Vari-X III on top of mine with factory installed target knobs, four inch sun shield, and Butler Creek lens caps. Great combo for long distance shooting. Anyway I would like to hear how the 200 grain bulets do.
