I live in Sierra foothills about one & half hour drive from L. Tahoe. Bears are a problem up there; too many local dummies (and tourists) either feeding bears, leaving out garbage and pet food, not securing food in camps, etc. Then, when someone kills a problem bear some of the locals complain to high heaven. They have multiplied considerably over recent years. They are at the top of the food chain; no competitors except for occasional cougar (which are protected species in CA). Little or no hunting of them in that area; not PC; local & state regs; high population (of people) density around lake. | |||
